Her life is a steady routine, both fulfilling and exhausting. Then Matthieu Francoeur turns up to report that his son, Joachim, has disappeared, along with the boy's mother, Christelle, from whom Matthieu is separated. There's a snag, however. Seven years earlier, Rebecca encountered this man with his then-wife and child. And his unthinking, cruel violence towards Christelle made an impression on Rebecca that has stayed with her right up until this second meeting. From this point on, Rebecca is fully committed to the investigation.
