Spring 1981. France is in the middle of the presidential election campaign, and Chirac has just betrayed Giscard by standing for election. In the Ministry of the Interior, people are wondering about the consequences of his candidature on public opinion, but are sceptical of the polls.Alice, daughter of the head of staff, is being pursued by Gilles, an ambitious graduate of the elite ENA school, and by Vincent, a young pollster. Some time before the first round of the election, Gilles finds out that the small village of Saint-Ferréol always votes like a microcosm of France as a whole. He sends Vincent to the village, both to conduct surveys on its voting intentions but also to keep him away from Alice. Eager to please his future father-in-law, however, Vincent overdoes things, discovering in the process that this village is far from being exemplary.

Il décide d’y envoyer Vincent pour recueillir les intentions de vote et l’éloigner d’Alice. Mais soucieux de plaire à son futur beau-père, Vincent fait du zèle et découvre que ce village témoin est loin d’être exemplaire ...
